What are my options for travelling to, in, and around Berlin?
For visitors, we highly recommend the WikiVoyage page for Berlin.
For train connections, please refer to the website by Deutsche Bahn. If you arrive by plane, note that Berlin currently has two airports: Tegel (TXL) in the north-west, and Schönefeld (SXF) in the south-east. The conference is closer to Tegel, but can also be reached easily from Schönefeld. For arrival and departure times, please refer to the airports’ websites.
For getting around Berlin, you might want to check out the website of BVG for busses and subway line. All three also provide apps for iOS and Android (“DB Navigator” iOS / Android, “Berlin Airport” iOS / Android or “FahrInfo Berlin” iOS / Android). In case you’d like to get home by Taxi at night, call +49-30-202020 or use apps “mytaxi” iOS / Android or “Taxi-Berlin” iOS / Android (Berlin is a quite safe city, so if you’re street smart, travelling at night should be no issue).
What are my options for accommodation?
The venue and the parties will be in the city centre, so we recommend staying close. Public transportation is good, so you should be able to reach the conference from just about anywhere in under an hour.
Some recommendations for a stay on a shoestring are Airbnb, budget hotels like the Motel One chain, the A&O chain or boutique hotels like Die Fabrik, Circus, or the Ostel. For the complete BarCamp experience, you could look for couchsurfing offers. The usual suspects like HRS or TripAdvisor also have lots of options available.
